Looking for a exquisite dining experience? Zoe's is exceptional. The staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. The food and its presentation are a feast for your eyes and palate. Marc Sauter, sommelier was amazing & assisted us in purchasing a special bottle as a gift, along with pairing the perfect wine with our meal. Five stars!

My husband and I had the best meal we've ever had at Zoe's! The wine pairing made it extra special. From the valet to the hostess to the bartender, servers and all the staff to the sommelier...everyone delivered fabulous service and the most fantastic food and wine! We highly recommended Zoe's for a special night out!

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday for a nice romantic dinner and we never stopped coming back! We love to try out new restaurants but we just couldn't get away from this place! The food is always amazing. The service is always great. An all around pleasant experience. If you want a nice place to take that special someone this is definitely it!

Based on my last review and having a great dining experience last night, Zoës has redeemed herself. We had a gift certificate that was given to us for Christmas that we had to use. So I gave it another try.....This is def. a place for a normal weekend/weeknight. I high recommend not coming here on a holiday. (See my past review) The BF made a reservation early in the week. They actually reserved the Chef's table for us without asking. (Boomerang shaped table in corner in front of the kitchen) I ended up ordering the 16 ounce Bone in 'Cowboy Cut' Ribeye. as suggested. The waiter also suggested a cooking temperature of Rare +. I ordered a side of the crab mac & cheese. The steak is served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak sauce was amazing. (Similar to A1 but better!) While we waiting on our entrees we were served warm bread, homemade butter, olives, and a roasted pepper sauce. We also received a single serving of an oyster app with citrus sauce. Delish. My steak arrived and was sheer perfection. I was tired of ordering a steak just have it taste like nothing. This steak was so flavorful that I even ate the gristle and that is rare for me! While were finishing our entrees a staff member brought over a dessert menu. (They do this because the Zoës Cup of Hot Chocolate takes about 20 minutes to make) We took the suggestion of the Zoës Cup of Hot Chocolate and was not disappointed. Cup full of Heaven (Valhrona Dark Chocolate served with Gran'ma Whipped Cream.) Even after the bill arrived we were served another assortment of small desserts: (Marshmellow, jelly candy.etc.....) Our service was outstanding. Even when the main server was busy, there was a hand full of staff who delivered just as well. I like that this very organized and did not leave you waiting...... I am glad I got the opportunity to come back and receive the service that I had the first time I visited. I will return based upon my superior dining experience last night.

Oh dear! Have lived in Virginia Beach for 16 years and this is one of the worst meals I have ever had here. We had a large party, so tip was guaranteed and, oh dear, was that evident. My fish was minuscule - Adequate, but minuscule, and for $32 I expect more than a playing card piece of fish and four pieces of poorly cooked asparagus. My friend's shrimp was raw and quite disgusting. Wine average- would eat anywhere but here again. Very disappointing.

Are you looking for an intimate, dark lit, romantic, amazing food spot? Then Zoe's is it. As you walk in, you're greeted by the hostess to a dimly lit, beautiful space. The booths are high comfortable and even include a little pillow on each side. When you're server greets you, they ask if you'd prefer a dark linen or light (you know that's it's super fancy if they're asking those kinds of questions). We started with the truffle parm fried which were out of this world. They had a mayo based sauce that came with them. Ah-may-zing. Lob pops, lobster Popsicles, which had pop rocks in the sauce were so tasty. After chewing you experience the pop rocks. It was so different and so good. Next up, the filet with a horseradish sauce and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly and it was gone in 2.2 seconds. Finally, chocolate soufflé. Oh my god. Those are the only words you need to describe it. I initially went for a scotch tasting event and ended up staying for dinner. Best decision I've ever made. I can't wait to go back for the next 3 classes. Not only was there a great variety of scotches, but it was super educational and I learned a ton. Stuart is a master scotchman and you can tell his passion for scotch when he talks about it. Very much looking forward to the next class. Make the drive and check this little gem out!

Excellent find! One of favorites anywhere! Must try the pork butt app and the ribs. Went two nights in a row and can see ourselves making the 4 hour drive just for dinner!! Amazing chef, Jesse! And his staff rivals those of exclusive restaurants worldwide. Can't wait for our next visit.

I ordered the very inexpensive steak special. Flavor was good but it was very tough. The wine special was great-a decent bottle of cab for $10. My husband upgraded his mashed potatoes to asparagus for $6-it was more than a dollar per spear! We asked for a booth in the dining room when we were seated just before 5pm but were told they were all reserved and were seated at a large booth facing the bar. 1.5 hours later every booth except 2 were still open. Service was very friendly. Bread and complimentary chocolates were exceptional. If I tried this place again I'd definitely try a better cut of meat and hope for better quality. The mandatory valet was silly-the entire lot was open and he wanted us to get out of the car (and tip) so he could literally pull 10 feet in to a space.

I agree with Jeff D. and the others who wrote that the restaurant doesn't care about their patrons. My husband and I had such a horrible experience with not only the service, but the food as well. Our salad and appetizer took over an hour to reach the table. I posted a photo of the lobster tempura, which were cold and soggy. Very unappetizing. For our main course, my husband ordered the steak (recommended by the waitress) cooked to medium and I ordered the lobster. After waiting for almost an hour and a half, our entrees finally came. However, my husband's steak was rear and my lobster was cold and tough. We notified the server and we were told that we would have to wait another 45 minutes or so if we wanted the kitchen to "fix our food." At that point we really just wanted to leave and asked for the check, barely touching our food. I would have gladly spent over $100 for dinner somewhere else. Zoes is not even close to what they claim to be--a fine dining establishment. Once you walk in, you will feel like you're in a dark lit basement with very outdated decor. Not sure how people find this restaurant romantic. If you are looking for a great fine dining restaurant, go to Terrapin instead, where service is impeccable and the food is always amazing. I spoke to the manager, Marc, just to give him feedback on our experience and the only thing he had to say was, "Sorry. We were having a busy night." He didn't seem to care to listen at what I had to say and was extremely rude. Avoid this place!

You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu, literally everything is amazing. We shared 2 small plates, 2 sides and a salad and left not overly stuffed but very content. The Kale Waldorf salad with truffle yogurt dressing tastes as good as it looks and is a perfect starter. The Lob Pops (lobster wrapped in bacon on a stick, tempura fried and served with a blackberry sauce and pop rocks) are delish and the pop rocks give them extra pizzaz! The Mushroom Risotto is amazing, full of flavor but by not overly rich. The Blue Crab Mac and cheese is really great, it has the perfect blend of cheeses, although it didn't have much crab to it. Finally, we had the Brussel spouts which were delish with a sauce that was flavorful and on the sweeter side. The entire staff was attentive, helpful and very nice. I would definitely recommend this place for any occasion!

My boyfriend and I went for dinner on a Friday night the week before Memorial Day weekend. It was absolutely amazing. We both had the filet cooked medium rare and both were cooked to perfection. I had mine topped with crab, hollandiase and Sriracha - to die for. we also ordered the lobster roll which was a good size portion - deep fried lobster sushi roll. Super good. All in all - loved the food.

Service was great but the quality of the Steak I ordered was disappointing. Would have to try this place again since it may have been the particular cut of the Steak I ordered. Also not sure what was up with the Valet parking requirement in an virtually empty parking lot?

Revisited Zoe's while on vacation this year after having been there 2 years ago. Still the best restaurant in the area and one of the best I've ever eaten at anywhere. One of the best features of Zoe's is their tasting menu. For those not familiar with a tasting menu, it means for a fixed price you select a combination of different items from the menu. Can't decide between two entrees? No problem take them both. Nothing appealing on the appetizer menu, no problem do two entrees. With the exception of steaks they downsize the portio from the tasting menu (though it is still very generous). They do do an upcharge on steaks as they can't be "downsized". To make the value on the tasting menu, for a VERY reasonable upcharge you can pair it with wine. For 3 courses I believe the upcharge is $28. When you pair it with wine the somalier will individually pair a different glass of wine with each course. He or She (Mark the head somalier or his assistant) will talk to you about your preferences and then based on your entree selection bring you an individual selection. We visited twice on this vacation and I let them pick the wines at their discretion both times. Consequently I got to drink 6 excellent wines that paired perfectly with each course. Pros: Valet Parking Great Food Great Service Great Wine Cons: A little on the expensive side (but worth it) No daily specials so multiple visits in a week can be repetitive. Overall you will NOT be disappointed. This is the restaurant to go to in VA Beach.

An incredible dining experience! At first there was some confusion with our server--I think we threw her off by studying the wine list so intently--but the food, wine, and experience was amazing. The sommelier helped us select a wine after they were out of our initial selection, even letting us try several samples before settling on an Australian Shiraz. The bread service was whimsical, bordering on silly--but the flavor of the sweet butter cream and fresh herbs was delicious, bordering on trancendental. We tried the lobster sushi roll--almost as good as Nobu! I had the wagyu steak special--pricey at $120 but melt-in-your-mouth marbled. My wife had the housemade charcuterie board as her dinner, but it would have easily fed four! The chef sent out some tempura fried veggies--light, crisp, not the slightest hint of grease. Dessert, and the accompanying dessert wines, were lovely, the lavender ice cream a perfect foil to the rich chocolate. Cheers! We are already planning to come back to va beach just to eat here.

One of my favorite restaurants ever. My most recent visit was for VB Restaurant Week, and for others that came and ordered off this particular menu I'm told they weren't impressed. To those people, I tell them to come back and give Zoës another try and order off their regular menu because they have to try the Blue Crab Mac & Cheese and the Lobster Pops...2 of my favorites here. The Hot Chocolate Soufflé (which was on the VB Restaurant Week menu) is also one of my favorites. Love the food, the ambience, the awesome service! LoveLoveLove Zoës!!!

My family and I travel to Va Beach frequently, and we are always on the lookout for a good restaurant. We were excited about this one, but I left feeling a little unsatisfied. It presents itself as a 5-star kind of place, but ultimately the food and service fell short. Our waitress (Kate) was awkward. I was with my parents (and they are hard or hearing and sight, to be honest) and I felt like she was a little condescending in tone. Perhaps it wasn't purposeful, but she came off as abrupt. When we asked for more time to review the wine list, she didn't come back to the table for 20 minutes (yes, we could see that she was busy with other customers). We finally had to call over the water-filler guy, and ordered two bottles of wine. The white bubbly arrived to the table 5 minutes later. The red wine (which we were hoping to let breath) didn't arrive until we asked for it again about 25 minutes later. Oh, while we were ordering a customer from another table actually interrupted us to ask our waitress for the bill when she was finished. Food was good, but we were paying for great. Lobster Pops were fine (interesting, but not all that tasty), Oxtail Ravioli (okay, not great flavors), Steak (very good, perfectly cooked), Lobster Mac (awesome), Lamb (very good). The Oxtail Ravioli came to the table cold. We had to search for our waitress, and again finally tell someone else. Then she came and said "it's cold" and we said "well it's not warm, it's luke-warm." Her tone just made us feel a little uncomfortable, but the ravioli's were definitely not warmed through or had been sitting for her delivery. On second try they were better, but still only okay. Bread was dry and quite frankly not worth the calories. Food seemed to be trickling out of the kitchen. We sat at 8:30pm, white wine came 25 minutes later. Lobster pops took 45 minutes, Oxtail Ravioli 1 hour. Steak didn't get to the table for 1.25 hours. It just felt like we were waiting the entire night. Atmosphere - Ask for a booth. The tables have no lighting overhead, and they just aren't as comfy or relaxing.

This will be the dining highlight of your visit to VA Beach. Zoe's is phenomenal. Food and service are outstanding, but come at a steep price. $200 for apps, salads, entrees and drinks for two. The charcuterie plate was $55 and worth every penny. We had the shrimp and grits and Salmon 4 ways. Both dishes were killer. They also have A5 Wagyu steak which is hard to find in the US. The one challenge though is the wine list - one of those places where there are a handful of sub $50 bottles and all the rest are $200+. Fine if you're a wino but intimidating if you're not. The good news is that their cocktail menu is full of perfectly executed awesome creations. Try the burbon bramble or the dirty pickle martini. Ambiance is dark, quiet with zen inspiring décor. Bottom line, there is a lot of attention to detail in every aspect of every plate, your food will be prepared perfectly, the service will be top notch, and you will pay for it. I'm from the NY area and spend a lot of time eating at some of the best restaurants in NYC, Chicago, Philly, and all over the Midwest. Zoe's easily makes the top 20 list.

Zoës- Elegant, rustic, and overall, phenomenal. I ordered the 3 course selection. I started off with the "Taste of Cheese" sampler dish. All of the cheeses were well selected, and greatly arranged. The almonds on this platter were to die for. My main course, was the 6 oz. Filet Mignon... I cannot explain how amazing this cut of meat was. Even being cooked well done, this steak melted in my mouth. Outstanding. To top off my dinner, the creme brulee. Perfectly caramelized, and the vanilla custard was just right. The only quarrel in my dining experience was the wait inbetween courses if you decide to order the 3, 4, or 7 course dinner selections. If you are enjoying this experience with your special someone however, it is more than worth the price tag.

MAGNIFICENT!!! Last night was my first visit to Zoe's, and it was unforgettable! We started the evening by tasting a few wines, and what a show it was! Mark gave us the complete history on the vineyards and owners of the wineries. He is an incredible wealth of knowledge when it comes to wine! The attention to detail in the presentation of the food was impeccable, I almost didn't want to eat it and ruin the art of it all! My New York strip was PERFECTLY done and utterly delicious. I have never seen anyone "saber" a bottle of champagne before! I've never experienced such an elegant evening. Our waiter was so on-point, nobody ever "needed" a single thing! This wasn't a dinner- it was an experience. Definitely a must!

Very good food... The atmosphere is good. The staff is very helpful, I used their private room to host a private business party (15+) and everyone was very pleased. They were able to accommodate the our group, plus some of my guests that did not RSVP. Still had the good come out on time, and did not lose the great taste of Zoe's. You might pay a little more at Zoe's, but you know your going to get a properly cooked, great tasting dish

Zoes is a fine dining restaurant next to the convention center. It's a big upgrade over the crummy spots nearby in the beachfront area. Though it bills itself as steak and seafood, I'd go with a steak. I had the strip cut sirloin. It was cooked as I requested, tasted great and was plenty filling. If you're from out of town and are going for novelty, I'd include clams and blue crab macaroni cheese as part of your meal. On my last visit some weird things happened which prevent a 5 star rating: -The Wedge is mostly heavy cheese dressing and minimal lettuce. Not recommended. -The waitress said she was new, and therefore she couldn't understand what wine we were ordering. We had to point it out on the menu. Then she disappeared and someone else took over. -There was an ant in the olives plate. We told a waitress and she was appalled and immediately replaced it. But that was it - no manager came to apologize and there was no waiving or even discount on the bill.

Zoes is excellent. My fiance and I cannot say anything but great, great things about our experience. One of my fiance's patients suggested that we visit Zoes for dinner. We took the suggestion and decided to have my birthday/post-deployment dinner there. As soon as we pulled up, we were greeted with complimentary valet parking. BAM! Already impressed. One step in the door and we were greeted with beautiful smiles from the staff. We were immediately seated in a more than comfortable booth. My fiance and I kind of took a minute to look at the place..like we always do. It was sharp. Great low-lighting to set the mood. Our server did a great job explaining the menu to us. Soon after she took our drink order, a wine expert greeted us and asked if we had questions. Although we dont drink too much alcohol, it was nice to know someone was there to help us of we had questions. Our server came back and we ended up ordering a couple glasses of wine that complimented our food. Although my wine was $25 for one glass, it was well worth it - Cabernet Sauvignon. To start, we had the house bread which was incredible and came with two sauces for dipping along with some olives. We also ordered the shrimp tempura...which was excellent in both its taste and delivery. My fiancee had the filet mingnon..which is her typical go-to! This thing was great. Super tender all the way through. No mistakes at all...simply, a perfect cut. This was accompanied by local grown asparagus. I had the New York Strip..16oz, I believe. One of the best cuts I've ever had. The bone-in strip was super flavorful. It was also covered with local grown mushrooms and onions. Both of our dishes came with mashed potatoes. We also had a side of blue crab mac and cheese. I love crab dishes. Aside from crab cakes, this is one of my favorites. The serving was so plentiful that we could barely finish it. Dessert - we ordered the chocolate souflee..with extra ice cream. We always fight over the last bit. It was great and ended our dinner perfectly The dish is made to order..so think about as you enjoy your meal. . Overall, this is an excellent restaurant for intimate/quiet celebrations. We're definitely coming back for more. Keep up the great work, Zoes!

First I'll say I'm completely biased, this is my favorite place. That being said, it's my favorite for a reason!! Great food, remarkable really, very unusual options and interesting twists - caviar popcorn. It will change your world. The wine list is amazing, and I grew up just south of Napa CA in a wine drinking family so that's saying something. It's a steak house, if your a carnivore you'll be in heaven, but if you're like me and prefer the whiter options Chef won't disappoint. Desserts, like the non-steak portion of the menu, change all the time and are worth every last calorie. If you are anywhere in Hampton Roads, visiting or residing, you owe it to yourself to try Zoes. If you are unsure of what wine to pair with your order just ask Somm Marc Sauter, who by the way teaches a pretty epic wine class every now again.. When you stop by tell the Michelle sent you, or come say hi as I'm likely enjoying a glass of something and popcorn at the bar.

You wont find more attention to detail and better execution of every nuance associated with your meal anywhere else, while making you feel like you are the only table in the restaurant. The best Restaurant Week menu my wife and I have had the pleasure of enjoying. It was our 10 year anniversary and it couldnt have been a better more carefree night of dining out. You can tell that each dish that is placed before you was constructed with more attention to detail and love than a lot of places that claim more and charge more.

If you want to be treated like a king or queen and have one of the best meals of your life then you definitely should come here. My wife and I have been here twice and both times have been nothing short of superb. First thing you'll notice is the impeccable service. You are greeted by valet who will open the doors for you and park your car. You don't even need a ticket because they will remember you and what car you came in with. The hostess will offer to take your coats and you'll be seated and given a dark or light napkin depending on your attire. The waiters are very knowledgeable about their food and you can tell they are proud of their chef. The have wine sommeliers who know the perfect wines to go with your food and they even give you a description and brief history about the wines they choose for you. This is a fine dining experience so expect high prices but the food will not disappoint you. I've had the cheese platter, raw oysters, and lob pops for appetizers. The cheese platter was awesome and when paired with the recommended wines I was given it was a very cool experience. The lob pops are bacon wrapped lobster bites sprinkled with cherry pop rocks. It definitely was a nice combination of the salty and sweet as well as the crunch the pop rocks added. The oysters are probably the freshest you'll find. Picked just a couple hours before reaching our plate they had a very pleasant taste with no salt or brine which you sometimes get with fresh oysters. They clean them up real good. I have had the filet both times and each time the steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. It honestly tasted better without the sauce or any additional flavors. The blue crab Mac and cheese is absolutely delicious as well as their truffle fries. As side dishes these things could probably stand on their own because they are that good! For dessert we have tried the goo goo chocolate cluster which is basically layers of a candy bar put into a small glass. You scoop it out with a spoon grabbing a bit of each layer on the way up and take a bite. It's just like a really fun and delicious way of eating a candy bar. It was a perfect way to cap off the meal. Our leftovers were boxed and they even offered to give it to the valet so they could put it our car for us. It was a great touch to their service. I can't say enough good things about this place as it is definitely a favorite place for us to celebrate special occasions.

I really had to really take my time to write this review because this place is hands downt he best fine dining i have ever been to. The manager of the place goes ABOVE and BEYOND to ensure his customers are happy. We ordered the New York Steak and the Cowboy steak. Im on a diet so i choose to go with a leaner steak...my boyfreind was not on one so his was not as lean as mine but boyyyyy oh boy was the bone in cowboy steak AMAZINGGGGGG. I tasted a piece the next day after warming it up and i was so dissapointed i didnt steal any from his plate during dinner. The veggies were spot on, the mashed potatoes were silky smooth. I truly enjoyed our experience there and will be informing the entire town of Hampton about the restaurant that out did Ruth Chris.

I live in Richmond and happened to be at the beach for the night, and grabbed some dinner with some friends. Richmond is much more a foodie town that Va Beach, but I will say that Zoe's was one of the best meals I have had in ages. Hands down!!!! I know good quality food, and this is it. Just the bread they brought out was the tastiest thing I've had in a while. I could have just eaten that and been satisfied. I ordered the calamari as an app, and it was by far the best I've ever had. The steak, exceptional, cooked exactly how I asked, and the smoked demi sauce was to die for. I told my wife that I would happily drive the 2 hours from RVA to the beach just to have dinner there, and then drive back. It was easily worth it. Keep up the good work, guys!

Highly recommend the 4 course with wine pairing. Love that the sommelier comes out and explains each wine that she chose. I had the Vanilla Butter Poached Lobster Risotto, Prince Edwards Island Mussels, Burgundy Braised Lamb Shank and Red Velvet S'mores. My hubs had the Sweet Potato Bisque, Grilled Shrimp Chorizo, Char Grilled New Zealand Rack of Lamb and GooGooCluster (Layers of Chocolate Pate, Toasted Hubbs Peanuts Salted Caramel, Crushed Malted Milk, Nougat). All were AMAZING!!

This place is amazing! Not to be missed! They take reservations and everything was ready for us even though we were a little late, no problem for them they were friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu., we both ordered steaks I had the filet and my friend ordered the NY strip steak, generous servings cooked to perfection, melted in your mouth. Even the salads were delicious. The staff was attentive and the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. The crab macaroni and cheese was everything they said it was and if you order dessert the chocolate souffle is to die for! A little more expensive than most restaurants in the area but definitely worth every penny!

Absolute BEST hidden gem Virginia Beach has to offer! Hands down the best crab mac-n-cheese you'll ever have in yo life! The service you receive here is the best I've ever received. Let's get to the menu..... pick something....anything....it's ALL FANTASTIC! I always try something new and get the crab mac-n-cheese as my appetizer. Never once have I been let down. Have I mentioned that that service is like totally top-shelf? Yeah don't forget it. I recommend a reservation for dinner to make sure you get a table for your dining experience. I have lost count as to how many people I have recommended to dine here but I'm not planning to stop anytime soon. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!

My boyfriend and I recently went to Zoes while on vacation and it was AMAZING! I loved everything about it from the environment, the service, and of course the food. Our waiter was super nice and pretty funny too. I got "just for the halibut" and it was my first time having halibut period. It was great! The crab hush puppies that came along were absolutely delicious. My boyfriend is a steak guru and absolutely loved his filet, said it was one of the best he's had which.. he's had A LOT! Needless to say, this is a must! You won't be disappointed!

Really great atmosphere. Cozy seating with low lighting & pillows in little semi private nooks that allow for a private dining feel. Great wines & knowledge of wine. Unique & delicious menu by an award winning chef. We had Filet Mignon topped with shrooms & onions, broccolini, garlic mashers, Tuna medium rare on a bed of kim chee, and creme brulee. Everything was absolutely perfect! The staff are very attentive but not in an annoying way. We were greeted by valet at the door, then seated by a hostess, and quickly attended by four servers who attended to our every need and never let our glasses empty. We felt very spoiled. The chef sent out decadent chocolates at the end of our meal. Top rate service and quality. It is obvious why this has been a successful fine dining experience in Virginia Beach for so many years.

Really nice evening here. Was in town for less than 24 hours and decided on Zoe's over a few of the other local spots near my hotel (DoubleTree / Convention Center) - it was the right move. Sat the bar because I was solo, so I can't speak to the table service, but given the level of attention that Stuart provided, I'm sure it's excellent. Enjoyed a few glasses of tremendous Screaming Eagle from the legendary wine list. Took in the playoff hockey/basketball games whilst enjoying the spinach and tomato appetizer with goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette, which was quite tasty. For my entree, enjoyed a tremendous (if slightly under-cooked) 9 oz filet with mashed potatoes - simple and delicious. Mark, one of the owners and clearly a wine connoisseur, was near the bar and very engaging. It was clear that the satisfaction of the patrons was paramount to him. And did I mention the wine list? Good grief. Overall a fantastic evening with great staff, good food, and tasty vino - would absolutely come back / recommend Zoe's for anyone spending time in the Virginia Beach area.

Beautiful experience. We came with high hopes and left satisfied with full stomachs. We decided we wanted to do a nice dinner while we were down in Virginia Beach; originally we thought about Terrapin, but chose Zoës due to the larger portions and better choices. Because we are celebrating our 1 year anniversary, I decided to leave in the comments section when reserving that it was our 1 year. They gave us a beautiful booth, card, and congratulated us; and put a candle on our dessert. We decided on getting a 3-course meal: my significant other chose A Taste of Cheeses, 6-ounce Filet Mignon, and the Creme Brûlée. I chose the Blue Crab Mac & Cheese, the 6-ounce Filet as well, and the Chocolate Soufflé. We tried each other's dishes and we were both delighted by each serving. Aside from the delicious food, our waiter was attentive and, although he said he had only been there for 3 weeks, very knowledgable about the menu items. Our experience lasted 2 hours, which was a lot longer than we had expected, but well worth the wait. They have an open kitchen, which surprisingly wasn't loud, and I hadn't even noticed until we were halfway through the meal. If we didn't spend over $100, we would be back again really soon.

This is the restaurant I chose to celebrate 2 years of being together with my girlfriend and Zoe's did not disappoint! Growing up and eating food on a daily basis you're bound to be exposed to iconic culinary treats that just naturally are pleasing to eat such as Creme Brûlée or Bacon wrapped Scallops. Zoe's in Virginia Beach doesn't offer dishes with such straight forward flavor combinations yet still gives diners adventurous reinterpretations of the classics. Case in point, the Foie Gras Brûlée and Lob POPS appetizers. I'll admit it, I'm as much as a foodie as can be for what Hampton Roads restaurants have to offer and these were 2 dishes of 4 that I tried in a 4 course tasting menu. I mean both of these dishes just dare you to try them if you're of an open mind just by reading the descriptions. The Foie Gras Brûlée was accompanied by delicious Morel mushrooms, Saba (a syrup made from freshly squeezed grape juice), and chives. This starter was great because you got the texture of a perfectly cooked Creme Brûlée complete with spoon crackable sugar shell overtop but with the taste of Foie Gras that wasn't overly heavy but still carried the richness in flavor. It went well with the fried wonton chips they served along side of it which were the perfect accompaniment to contrast the silkiness of the brûlée. The next course I had was actually the main course which surprised me as I was expecting another app. I decided on the Balsamic Roasted Scallops served with Pancetta, Mark's 24 Hour Tomatoes, Pecorino, Pesto Aioli, Focaccia, and Balsamic Reduction. The tasting portion gives the diner 2 scallops about U-10 size which are a decent size (enough to use a knife AND fork). The pancetta was spread out in crispy bits, and the 24 hour tomatoes reminded me of the flavor of sun-dried tomatoes. Overall, a nice dish. The third dish was the Lob POPS. Pops in caps on the menu because the use of... POP ROCKS! For the first time in my life I tried a dish in which Pop Rocks were used in a savory application and it did not disappoint. The tasting portion consists of 2 bacon wrapped pieces of lobster meat which are tempura fried and served with a Blackberry reduction and garnished with Cherry Pop Rocks. That childhood memory of the sound of pop rocks immediately rushed back to me as the waiter laid the plate in front of me. I'd say it took me about a minute or two to finish the plate. The blackberry reduction was a nice addition to the dish while the pop rocks served more of an auditory sensory experience and delivered less on taste. Last but not least was dessert in which I chose the Trio of Cannoli (which is actually a duo if you choose the tasting menu). I got the ones filled with Mascarpone and Chocolate Curls. They were small but the filling was light and airy like a mousse which was very delicious and not at all heavy like some traditional cannolis I've had in the past. A great way to end the meal... almost! At the very end as we were settling the bill the waiter brought out various homemade jellies, a vanilla marshmallow, and macadamia nut cookie bite for us to enjoy on the house. If you're looking for a nice fine dining restaurant where you can either dress up or come in business casual and enjoy some great food using great ingredients with a mix of imagination then this is a place you need to try. Zoe's does well in departing from the same 'ol same 'ol and does so not only in having great dishes but great service as well. You pay for what you get and it's only pricey if you don't find you got enough value in the overall experience; fine dining or otherwise ;)

When I think of taste overload, I think "Tempura Fried, Bacon Wrapped Lobster", what I don't think of is "Cherry Pop Rocks". Some how, through what I'll describe as either magic or dark arts, the chef at Zoes has managed to combine these two things into a whimsical appetizer, called Lobster Pops. Unfortunately this is a right side menu item, so it might not always be available, but it was an experience for sure. On to the rest of the review. Our meal started with what I would describe as a forgettable bread course, unfortunate. It was warm, a little over crusty and the spreads they brought out with it were sorta bland, overall this course was a a let down. But hey, it was free! For our appetizer we ordered the Lobster Pops ^ which as I said was a right side menu item, you see the menu at Zoes has two sides. The left is "We'll always have this on the menu every time you come back" and the right side is an ephemeral culinary exploration by the head chef. You never know what you might get! To be honest, I wanted to try so many of those dishes, but when you come wanting a steak, you order a steak. I seemed to be the only one of my three guests that got a bunch of pop rocks and it was a great experience that they seemed to miss out on. I also ordered the cheese sampling plate. The Italian parm was amazing! But, each person at the table had their own favorite. It also comes with additional little sides, like a wonderful mustard and this tasty little nutty bread thing (probably not its official name). For my main meal I had a 6oz filet with a lobster tail and it was simply perfect. I added the Foie Gras butter on top to complete the experience (there are like 15 toppings you can add!). Lobster tail was superbly cooked, something I find is a bit of a rarity these days, most folks locally seem to overcook them to an almost rubbery consistency. For dessert we split the trio of canolli's, they were magically delicious! Each one was unique and the little cherries that came with it were delightful. We had the fortune of sitting in a small back room, so the acoustics were superb. Additionally, the valet parking was quick, professional and reasonable (no cost, just tip) I've always hated that Yelp doesn't have a 4.5, because there needs to be something between just being a fan and as good as it gets. Zoes isn't quite as good as it gets, there were some misses, the bread course, the mismatched pop-rock experience, etc... I believe strongly that if you know what you have is exceptional, then you should charge a premium for it and Zoes is *great* food; when you charge a premium, however, to get five stars, I need everything to be perfect. Summary, Zoes is worth your time if you love food. I look forward to coming back and trying the tasting menu! We'll see if they can earn the five-star next time.

Absolutely a MUST if you are in Virginia Beach. Decided to go with the filet - wine pair and the bartender Judy was amazing to assist with two other options for pairing. Overall it's a required stop if you are in the area. Ill be back. I already booked a private tasting.

I have been wanting to go here for quite some time. I'm a huge foody and was excited after hearing all the great reviews. Although our food was excellent our service with our waiter was awful. Having been a chef myself I was so curious and wanted to ask questions about my meal and he had short answers with me and would walk away. My boyfriend had dressed down that day because he wanted to be comfortable and had been working. More attention was paid to the table behind us. The smuck behind us was obviously having his meal paid for him by his mother and grandmother. He was loud. Anyway....our bus girl was the sweetest thing there! She was on point with everything and so polite. We gave our waiter his 15% but had a separate tip rung up for 25% just for her. The service ruined our whole experience. We were treated like dirt. We've spent MORE money in restraurants with less quality meals and walked away very happy and satisfied. I feel as if they judged us by how we looked, possibly color of our skin? If they didn't, they really made us feel that way. We will never be coming here again and working in a very established hotel I will never recommend my quests to go here. There are better places with better service.

I had the 9 oz filet, which was tender, juicy, and cooked and seasoned to perfection. The grilled broccolini was also delicious. My boyfriend and I split the creme brûlée and goo goo clusters desserts, which were heavenly! Our waiter was attentive and made great wine and beer selections. Even the valet was super courteous and fast getting our car. We will definitely return.

Had a wonderful experience at Zoe's. Great atmosphere and the food was excellent. Great service too. A bit pricey but I don't mind paying for a good meal. Scallop dish was well received and I had the 6 oz filet done to perfection. So Tender that I really didn't need a knife. Tried the fries after reading some reviews and they were well worth the calories. Would definitely go again if ever in the area again.

Fabulous steaks and side dishes. We had the small filets which were cooked perfectly and very tasty. The onions rings were huge and nicely seasoned. Bacon mac n cheese was yummy. Free valet parking was a nice touch.

I came here about two months ago; my sister in law was in town and wanted to treat us to a nice upscale dinner. I looked this place up online and saw the great reviews. It's tucked away off the oceanfront, nice property, Valet parking service Ect, we were a group of 4. I walked in the night before and got a table reserved for us that was near the kitchen area. as you can imagine is was very loud and busy near that spot but it was not a deal breaker, the establishment inside is very warm and cozy, elegant. Most of the staff was nice, the waitress were a bit off putting however, almost like you could feel them observing you, like if you took to long for a portion of your meal and they have it waiting ect. Sommelier, Marc Sauter, makes the experience however, he is a pleasure to interact with and was my favorite part of the experience all together. For some reason I could blindly listen to this mac describe wines and methods of wine making or facts and never get bored, I'm still evaluating if this is a good thing or not :) The food is excellent, the blue Crab Mac and Cheese, although usually a dish that would be considered generic was memorable and mouth watering. The steaks are also fantastic and were paired perfectly with our wine. The selection of cheeses also works wonderfully if you are enjoying a wine flight. Other dishes like the Chinatown shrimp tempura are...well... Not that great. Its pretty much shrimp tempura with pop-rocks on it, unless they changed it, it was not a hit. Anything you order (except the poprocks shrimp that someone came up with after smoking the chiba.) will most likely be wonderful, of the dishes we got, between fish, steaks or deserts, all were fantastic. That being said... this all comes at a price, chances are you are willing to accept that if you are even considering a restaurant of this caliber. This in my opinion is the best restaurant in this area, for fine dining period. Fantastic location to impress a Date, romantic Dinner or special occasion.

Probably the best restaurant in Virginia Beach. From the minute you roll into the restaurant parking lot, you are taken care of by Zoe's staff. Vallet parking attendant was very friendly and professional. The bar area is small but very cozy. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable. Our waitress, Kate K. was very professional, knew all of the food on the menu and could expertly describe what was in each dish and how it was prepared. We started off with each of us having a wedge salad and a shared the crab mac & cheese. The crab mac and cheese was delicious! The wedge salad was swimming in thick salad dressing and was barely edible. We each picked at the dryer parts of the salad and the great bits of bacon. We won't be getting the wedge salad again, unless we can get the dressing on the side. For our main dishes, my friend had the fried jumbo shrimp and I had the filet steak. Both of us loved our dishes! We shared a chocolate soufle for dessert and it was incredible. Overall great restaurant; we'll be back (just keep away from the wedge salad).

Excellent. Ribeye cooked perfectly. Seared rockfish dish delicious. Our waiter was able to pair two perfect wines with our meals. Lemon Panna cotta was a perfect end to the evening. Worth every dollar spent tonight.

Everything about this place approached perfection. From the service, ambiance, and food, all aspects were great. I ordered the shrimp tempura ($11), iceberg salad ($8), and blue crab mac n cheese ($5). The shrimp dish came in a chinese to go box along with cabbage and a spicy cocktail sauce-ish dipping accompaniment. Lots of fresh and crispy shrimp for a bargain price based on the upscale surroundings. The salad, with Gorgonzola dressing, bacon, and tomatoes was excellently presented. I'm usually not a fan of iceberg lettuce, but this salad was crisp and tasty. Though I couldn't taste much blue crab in the mac n cheese, as the great cheese flavor over powered it, it's still an excellent option and I highly recommend it. If you're looking for a special occasion spot in VB, Zoe's should be at the top of your list.

Adore. What else can I say....adore. Maybe because we just moved from Tucson which we felt was devoid of good food. I doubt it. Started off with a smile from the hostess. Sat down. Greeted quickly from our fantastic server. First time here and we had the tasting menu. Hubby and I had burrata and tomato, iceberg wedge, pop rock thing....and wow the short rib. All was aaaaaaamazing, the burrata was fresh and so soft. The wedge had an amazing blue cheese homemade dressing. The short rib was to die for. The lobster pop rock deal....ahhhh good but not the best out of the four. We then had steak. Ours were cooked to perfection. Best steak I had in years. Had asparagus and was gorgeous. Had lobster Mac and cheese...was kinda full and didnt really partake but was tasty. We had the trio dessert. The creme brûlée was nice... The soufflé was nice....the mint sorbet tasted like toothpaste ....so we left it. The end of meal tastes they brought were Devine. 100000% worthy of every cent we spent and then some. Wish was near us.. ADORE

Relocated from PA and wanted to give it a try because its so close to the new house. Its very ambiguous outside and we almost missed it but i am sooo glad we found it in September. Best dinner I have had since moving here in July. I am now truly an addict to this great little spot. Their tastings are amazing and I'm kind of a wine snob. The sommelier is great, friendly and knowledgeable with a flair for surprising you with varietals you wouldn't know of otherwise.

So I'm not sure why other people have had such bad experiences here, our experience was almost perfect. I didn't mind the valet parking, it saved us from having to walk in the cold to the restaurant. Our table was ready at 7, our reservation time. And our waitress was friendly, helpful, and knowledge. It wasn't stuffy or pretentious like some people have said...so what they put the napkin on my lap, I say "Thanks!" because it's suppose to be finer dining than other places. I don't have a problem with that. My boyfriend made the reservation and told them it was my birthday so we had an intimate booth setup for us and they even gave me a Thank You card for dining with them on my birthday. That was a nice touch. I must say I was a little overwhelmed with the wine menu and underwhelmed with the dining menu but once I started looking at everything and reading the descriptions I was much more interested than I originally thought I would be. Prior reviewers aren't joking when they mention the extensive list and expensive prices. I'm not big on wine so I wouldn't really know anything other than the fact that I like an oak barrel Chardonnay. My waitress pointed out the only oak barrel Chardonnay on the "wine by the glass" menu and it was $14. But who cares, it was my birthday! Prior reviews also mention the tasting menu which was very appealing to both of us. We opted for the 3 course tasting and I ordered the Iceberg Lettuce, Pork and Beans, and 10 oz Strip. First - the Iceberg Lettuce had delicious slices of fried bacon with crispy lettuce and Gorgonzola dressing that was divine. The combination of the bacon and dressing was an awakening on my taste buds for more of what was to come. Don't let the name Pork and Beans fool you - this dish was comprised of a piece of Pork Belly that was fried to the perfect level of crispiness with the right amount of fat to make the pork so juicy! The beans were just white beans with some stewed tomatoes but all combined together was just the ultimate melt in your mouth enjoyment. My steak was prepared to order perfectly (medium) but I must say my slight disappointment with the steak was the temperature. It almost seemed like it sat in the window one or two minutes too long as it wasn't really HOT when it was brought to the table. It was still phenomenal, but it would have been better had it been hotter. With the steak came choices of sauce - house sauce, horseradish sauce, and some other sauce. All you need to know is the house sauce is delish and has a nice spiciness to it and the horseradish sauce was so very complimentary to the steak that I couldn't stop using it! And that's saying a lot because I am from the school of thought that if you need to put sauce on your steak, it wasn't cooked right. Well that's a bunch of BS, at least to me! The sauces were great. My boyfriend ordered the 3 course too and opted for Spicy Shrimp Tempura, Little Neck Clams, and the 9 oz Fillet Mignon. The Spicy Shrimp Tempura was cooked to a light golden brown and the shrimp were super fresh, like they were caught right before being dusted and deep fried! Yummy!! The Little Neck Clam dish is made with sausage, scallops, and clams steamed in a moscato wine. Holy Moly - this dish was divine! Again, the freshness of the seafood was unbelievable and the mixture of sausage added a little kick to the dish. I gave it two thumbs up and my boyfriend raved it was one of the best dishes he's ever had! The Fillet Mignon was also prepared exactly as requested (Medium) and it too could have been warmer. Overall, the bite I had of his was excellent and it melted in my mouth. Real Quick - because I've droned on long enough - the dessert sampler they gave us. Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookie, Raspberry Meringue, Mint Marshmellow, and Sugared Pear strip were all amazing! They were little bite sized pieces but enough for two people to split, if you don't mind eating after someone. The raspberry meringue was by far my favorite!! I really want to give this place 4.5 stars, but obviously it's either 4 or 5. I can't give it 5 stars because the steaks could have been hotter. However, this place is now one of our favorites, but will only be visiting when we can afford it. You do get what you pay for though, and it's worth it. At least for us, it was. And it made for a great birthday experience!

We went with an assortment of sides... the crab mac and cheese was awesome, but very heavy. We shared a large, but it was way too much. Go with a small. I also recommend the fries - excellent. The asparagus was good, but the salad we had (tomatoes and goat cheese - it was a special that night), was nothing to write home about and their choice to bread and fry the goat cheese was not a choice I would have made. Our dining companions each had a filet and devoured them both. The sides they served with the meat was almost silly compared to the ala carte sides on offer. Either give someone a choice of those, or just leave them out. Also, their "meals" are quite confusing. Our table didn't partake. Any combo of salad, app, entree and dessert or something like that... too many choices in my book. KISS. The wine by the glass was good and they had some nice beers. I would go back if in the area. BTW, we walked from the boardwalk - no need to take the car.

My husband and I visited Zoe's last night. It came highly recommended by a friend from work. We were aware of the mandatory valet at the front - which is somewhat silly to me considering it has an attached small parking lot and you can literally park almost anywhere in it and be less than 50 feet from the front door, but whatever. The staff are very friendly when you first arrive and quickly seated us as we had a reservation. The menu is somewhat confusing as there are the different options of tasting menus so it took us a while to look it over and decide what we wanted. Their wine list is HUGE and they have a lot of selection though the wines are vastly marked up - more so than any other restaurant I've been to in the area. We decided to do the Chef's tasting menu. I got the 6oz. Fliet Mignon with a wedge salad and asparagus. My husband got the 16oz. Bone In Cowboy Cut Ribeye with mashed potatoes, Edamame Hummus, and a side of crab macaroni and cheese. First off, the wedge salad was not a wedge but a tiny sliver of lettuce more like 1/4th a normal wedge with 4 pieces of cold bacon spaced out on the plate and two cherry tomatoes cut in half. This was $7. The Edamame hummus my husband got was very good, small but it was decent sized for an appetizer and tasted good. BOTH of our steaks were cooked incorrectly. His he ordered medium rare and it was rare. Mine I ordered medium well and it was medium rare with a pretty much rare center. We didn't complain but ate them, mine was so rare in the middle, remember I ordered medium well, that it almost made me sick and I gave the middle to my husband to eat. The best part up to this point was the crab macaroni and cheese which was absolutely delicious. The cheese was creamy and good, the macaroni was cavatappi (my fav) and there was just a hint of crab. It was EXCELLENT. For dessert my husband got a pumpkin mousse pie creation of some sort and I got the standard creme brulee. I LOVE creme brulee and this was not the best. It wasn't fully "cooked" on the sides, just the middle, so there wasn't as much caramelized crunchy sugar topping and the inside of the brulee was a somewhat runny consistency. Our meal came out to about $130. The price, for what we got, was not worth it. The inside of the restaurant was nice, our server was polite and attentive, the food wasn't bad, but it was not worth at all close to what we paid. With steaks undercooked for the price we paid for them, it was simply not a place we'll ever go back to again. I've read other reviews and seen this has been a problem for others and for a place charging $44 for a steak that's just unacceptable.

Delicious. I had the filet mignon. My husband had the rib eye. Both prepared perfect and with excellent flavor. We also had the raw oysters with their own seasonings. And the service was great! They too were delish! I would definitely recommend.

We ordered carrying from Zoe's while staying at the Double Tree for a convention! Everything was out of this world delicious! Filet mignon was cooked just perfect with grilled asparagus. The blue crab macaroni and cheese was amazing. My daughter had the kids shrimp meal (lightly breaded) and the served carrots and celery with ranch and peanut butter. This little hidden gem of a restaurant is a must try while in VA beach especially when looking for a high quality dinner!

Don't waste your time on the steak. My wife and I went to Zoes recently for her birthday because we had heard good things. Unfortunately our experience was not. It started when we arrived and asked for a booth. "Absolutely not. Those are reserved," was the response. Instead we were seated under waterfall mounted on the wall that was so loud we could barely hear each other. The menu choices are limited and the prices high (lowest price wine is $42+). Our server kept recommending the steaks, so I ordered the cowboy porterhouse medium and specifically asked if it was bone-in. When it arrived, I nearly laughed. My bone-in porterhouse had NO bone, 1/2 inch thick, fatty, and was raw. Our server must have noticed my concern so at that point she disappeared and didn't return until dessert. On top of that, I couldn't even find a manager to talk to. This was a waste of $150 in a restaurant that doen't care about their patrons.

Zoe's on 19th is by far my favorite restaurant in Virginia Beach...and Hampton Roads as a whole! I have been coming here for years and would definitely say I come here most to celebrate a special occasion, as I was just there a week ago for my birthday. It is sort of a best kept secret because of its location away from the beach, but still in the oceanfront location. First off, the ambiance in the place is fabulous, with dim lighting and secluded booths. The restaurant isn't huge, so I would recommend a reservation. Now on to the best part; the food. I don't ever eat at Zoe's without ordering their Blue Crab Mac 'n Cheese. One word. PHENOMENAL. The wedge salad is a great starter, as well as the tempura shrimp. For my entree, I ordered the prime rib which was delicious, and you get to choose your steak toppings and sauce flavoring. They have a great wine list and the staff is very friendly and on top of it. Also, what I love about their menu is on the left side are all the appetizers and entrees that have stayed consistent throughout the years (clearly because they are so fantastically yummy) and on the right side are their specials that change monthly. Zoe's is a definite must eat and you will not leave disappointed; only full and happy.

Went here for a birthday dinner during vacation. Atmosphere was great, if the lighting a little dark. The menu was very eclectic and original. We started with the lobster pops, which were fantastic. I had the 9 oz filet mignon, which came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. It was cooked perfectly and melted like butter in my mouth. My fiance had the crab cakes ,which he loved. We also split the blue crab macaroni and cheese, which was fantastic. We got the "cup of hot chocolate," which is a chocolate souffle with whipped cream on top. Extremely rich and delicious. The service was great, if a little stuffy.

We go to VA Beach each year and try to find a restaurant to impress. Zoe's is an required trip. We visited Terrapin for the first time and heard how great it was and we were disappointed. We were hoping that Zoe's would not disappoint as well. My goodness, it made our trip to VA Beach memorable again. Everything about the place is amazing. Ambiance, service, food, wine and staff sommelier. It's all spot-on as though you are visiting a NYC upscale place. If you're in VA Beach for a visit, do not miss out on Zoe's.

Came here for dinner with my family after a long day at the beach. It also happened to be our anniversary as well. Let me just say that we were severely under dressed. We didn't realize it was fine dining until the valet guy came up to the car. He was really nice though, and said "Hey, it's the beach!" when we expressed concern over our attire. We got a few odd looks when we came in, but I couldn't blame anyone, bc we were really under dressed. To start our meal, we ordered the ahi poke, and it was pretty good. Did it taste like authentic Hawaiian ahi poke? Not exactly, but it was still good. Afterwards, our salads came. The caesar salads we had were definitely great, but a little small for the price. For dinner I had the short rib and my husband had the halibut. My short rib was great and my husband loved his dish as well. The hollandaise that we added with our asparagus was also great. My son chose the chicken strips and fries, which I know anyone can do, but he seemed to really enjoy Zoes' version. He also enjoyed the way they made a little house out of his carrot and celery stick appetizer. I honestly have never seen him eat so much at a restaurant before! Since it was our anniversary, the server brought out a small complimentary dessert. Wish I could remember what it was, but I do remember that it was good. I definitely enjoyed our meal here, and perhaps one day we will be back...in nicer outfits ;-)

Hands-down our absolute favorite restaurant in Hampton Roads... come to think of it - maybe of all-time! Everything about Zoes is on point - from the incredibly friendly, attentive waitstaff, to the amazing, always changing menu, to the upscale yet cozy ambiance, to the mind-blowingly knowledgeable sommelier - Zoes hits it out of the park on all counts. At our most recent dinner at Zoes we had our standard, can't miss items such as the steak (no more perfect a filet will you ever find) cooked exactly as ordered, the blue crab mac & cheese (life-changing), and the lob pops (tempura fried lobster wrapped in bacon, I mean... seriously). We also had to try some of the new menu items, too, and we chose the tomato and burrata salad, the ahi poke, and the halibut. All were outstanding and made us happy we mixed it up and gave the new menu a shot. Dessert was unreal - in keeping with the rest of the meal - a peach and blueberry crisp topped with housemade vanilla bean ice cream. It's been a few weeks since this dinner and I am still drooling just thinking about it! Thanks again for another amazing meal, as always!

By far the best food I've had, not only in Virginia Beach, but ever. The steaks are exceptional, cooked perfectly, sides are interesting and delicious, blue crab mac and cheese is out of this world! I made a reservation for a special night out for my boyfriend, who had just returned home from Afghanistan after a year. The sommelier, Marc, made a special visit to our table and recommended an amazing dessert ice-wine. Amazing service, as well. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny, but it is MORE than worth it!

After yelping for a place to celebrate my birthday, I decided to try Zoes. We started off with an iceberg salad which was very good. For the main course we ordered a fillet mignon and a bone-in cowboy ribeye. The steaks were cooked perfectly, medium rare, as requested. We also added foie gras torchn for the topping for the steaks and it tasted great. The steaks came with grilled asparagus and mashed potato. For the dessert we had chocolate molten soufflé. It was rich and creamy-delicious. Any restaurant that serves good quality green tea normally has good food. I was very satisfied with my green tea and my husband also enjoyed his gin martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. Excellent service.

I went there during restaurant week maybe last year. The staff are pretty nice. Valet parking in front of the restaurant. The iceberg salad was fresh and tasty. Bread and butter were yummy. Some free special to fresh up my mouth before entree. How sweet! Stake was good portion and mouthwatering. A little bit dark place. Not for family with kids but date nights. I wanna go back there again to write more interesting stuff:)

This was the most amazing restaurant I have had the pleasure of eating at in a very long time! The wait staff was wonderful and very attentive. The food that was delivered from the kitchen was extraordinary! Their chef definitely knows what he is found and leads his kitchen staff wonderfully! I definitely recommend this restaurant and will come back when I visit Virginia beach again!!

Gem of a restuarant a few blocks off of the beach. James Beard award winning chef and Marc Sauter has built an amazing wine list! Highly recommend. They also host many small wine events over the course the year (check out their website for upcoming events).

I think the kitchen was having a rough night on Valentine's Day. It took FOREVER to get our food. A total of 3 hours to eat a 5 course meal. Aside from the timing issues, the food was fantastic and our waitress Kate was great. I am willing to get it another chance. Again the food and drinks were excellent.

If fine dining is a combination of food & experience, this experience sucked! I wanted to take some time before writing this review to let both my frustration and laughter subside a tad. To get quickly to the point: the food was amazing - 5 star. The service was horrible, 0-1 star, so I settled on a 2 star review. Here's what went down: Made reservation for 8 p.m. on a weeknight (table for 2). Someone in my own mind this got twisted & I thought reservation was @ 8:15.... Couple of minutes past 8 p.m., I was pulling into the parking lot, phone rings. It's the restaurant asking if I'm still coming. Yes, will be right there. All downhill from there. On a warm Thursday night in April (which I get isn't primo season), no valet. No problem, as the parking lot was empty. Go inside, the entire place is empty.... 1 other table. I almost felt as if they were calling me because if I was the last rez of the night & wasn't coming, they could just close up shop early. Anyway; sat down with menus from the hostess & was quickly approached by a server. Talked a bit about wine - I didn't go through the entire list because I immediately mentioned I like Pinot Noir, mostly from Oregon. Waiter recommended the only Oregon Pinot by the glass available and pointed out that it was $20 glass..... I asked a stupidly redundant question "I don't care about the price, if it's good... is it worth it?" I was assured it was. Whatever. I fell for it, who cares. While the waiter was still there, we ordered the Lobster Pops - because I had heard amazing things about them. I suppose a made a comment or asked a question so the server was awesome to explain they were fried (didn't know that) and wrapped in bacon (didn't know that part either). So now, within the server's initial visit to the table, we have ordered 2 cocktails + appetizer. He immediately asked if we knew what we wanted for dinner. I swear I don't think I even looked at the menu - - I wanted a steak & when I want a steak I want an extra rare filet; dining partner had bone-in Ribeye. Check. So now - - it's literally like 8:15 - the time that I *thought* my initial reservation was, I've been out of my car 5 minutes and we've already placed our entire order. Within a couple of minutes, out come drinks & Lobster Pops. Together. At the same time. The Lobster Pops really were good but there is no way they were cooked to order - had to just be reheated or something. It was *that* fast. There are only 4 bite sized pieces so Lobster Pops were gone pretty quickly. By the time our appetizer plates were cleared from the table, they were immediately replaced with the steaks. That fast. Seriously, by 8:30 - - slightly over 25 minutes - - we had been served 2 cocktails, an appetizer and 2 outrageously priced entrees. It became absolutely comical. I have done the Chili's Express Lunch and I didn't get my food this fast!!! ;) And believe me that these aren't Chili's prices. That is my major rub. I can't remember the last time I was in a restaurant of this "perceived" caliber & only had 1 glass of wine. Didn't matter, I wasn't offered a 2nd glass because my food was gone & check was on the table before I ever finished the 1st glass!!! My advise to Zoes: decide what you want to be when you grow up? If you want to serve food & wine at these prices, you can totally get away with it because your food was great. If you want to get a table for 2 in & out in 30 minutes or less, you should probably focus on wings & beer. I love dining out & do not mind spending money on good food - and this WAS good food. But I'll never go back.

If you're looking for a romantic, secluded, intimate place for dinner. Zoes will not let you down. I went during the Virginia Beach Restaurant week, it was pretty busy but yet the noise level was still pretty low. We valeted the car & got our coats checked at the front door. Fancy huh? ha Service was extremely professional & timely. Our food was superb! I started with the clams.. delish, had a perfectly cooked steak with tasty potatoes & asparagus and to finish with a bang a hot chocolate soufflé... holy taste buds is that ever good! I've heard they have the best crab macaroni in town too, I will have to get that next time. Just being here once made me a fan.. It was love at first bite!

By far, one of the better places I've been to eat in Virginia Beach. The service was excellent, including the valet, and the food was equally impressive. It is a little on the pricey side for the amount of food that you get, but I will say that it is very good. I would certainly recommend this place for anyone who is prepared for a nicer level of dining as opposed to someone that is just coming off the beach. At any rate, it's a great option and I'm positive you will have a great experience.

Food was excellent as was the service. Britney did a fine job waiting on us and tolerating our humor. I would recommend anything on the menu. Stay away from the pumpkin martini though. Very dry and a major disappointment to our group.

It's impressive, when you first arrive in their driveway. You're forced to stop immediately, and a nice young man (not in a chauffeur's uniform, but a nice Zoe's black windbreaker) greets you, asks if you have a reservation (on a weekend, you had better!) and then takes your keys and your car away to be parked. And then it's a little bit of bedlam when checking in with the hostess; again, at least on the weekends. But it's organized bedlam, and you're quickly taken into the quieter innards of the restaurant, and to your table. Zoe's is large enough inside, and warmly decorated with lots of natural woods, earth tones, and very good indirect lighting. The style is just comfortable --- no attempt is made to convince you you're in a French bistro, a Western hunting lodge (their main food theme is steaks), or a beach cafe. It's just comfortable, well lit, and very warm. Our server Tim carried this warm decor into our experience with Zoe's waitstaff; he could not have been more charming, knowledgeable about both food and beverage, and helpful throughout our entire visit. And so, with both decor and service heading in the direction of 5 stars, we felt like we were going to have a really spectacular night. And it was a great night, but maybe not spectacular. First, we certainly found Zoe's wine list to be, hands down, the best we have seen anywhere in Tidewater. Period. But the rub here was the pricing. We always expect to pay roughly twice normal retail for bottled wine in a restaurant --- but not three+ times normal retail. I'm blessed (or maybe cursed) by buying enough wine myself to have a reasonable idea what mid-range wines cost at Total Wines or Trader Joe's, especially the Cabernets, Pinot Noirs, and the better Reislings. We were looking for a Pinot Noir, and Zoe's wine list has many good Sonoma and Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs available. But, at prices up to $160 for a mid-range vintage, I couldn't (or maybe more like wouldn't) afford any of them. After much discussion, Tim was able to find a very nice North Coast Pinot Noir, specially priced for us at only $69 --- which is slightly higher than twice its normal retail price at Total Wines. And, of course, the wine turned out to be a great choice --- but maybe a little bit soured as a result of all the drama over prices. Our second minor disappointment with Zoe's was with the food and food presentation. They make a real effort with steaks, and my wife did have their small filet and found it to be very good, and cooked exactly as she had asked. But, she said, it was no better than the tenderloins I prepare regularly at home, even in the broiler during the winter months. My pheasant breast, served with a delicious butternut and rapini stuffing and wonderful grilled Brussels sprouts, was also very good --- except that the breast turned out to be a leg quarter. In the end, our most memorable food experience was probably the beautifully presented Orange Scented Beets that we both shared as one of our appetizers. Our other shared appetizer, their famous Blue Crab Mac-n-Cheese, was notable for its strong crab flavor, but no noticeable crab meat. We couldn't figure out how they did that, and Tim wasn't talking. So, in the end, we had a very nice evening in a very comfortable restaurant, populated by very pleasant and competent service people, a killer wine selection, and so-so food. There's no doubt that Zoe's takes great pride in its wine offerings --- as well it should. But, at least for us, more attention in the kitchen, and maybe more reasonable wine prices, would greatly enhance another evening at Zoe's.

Okay, I guess this place is above my level. I don't get it. The food is good but I have had better for less. If you are into the fancy smancy life then you will like this place.

My boyfriend and I went to Zoe's last night for restaurant week. Having read reviews on yelp I was aware of the mandatory valet parking, neither of us had a problem with the valet as they were very friendly and nice. I started of with a glass of Sauvignon blanc which was recommended and very good. We both ordered off the restaurant week menu, I started with the lobster pops, main course of flounder, and ended with apple fritters. We both absolutely loved every bite! The waiters and waitresses were so knowledgable and helpful, despite being incredibly busy. Every detail was taken care of and we both felt the prices matched the experience. Zoe's is a great place to go if you want great food and a great experience!

Had a great dinner of appetizers. Eastern Shore oysters with a chef's special hot sauce and Shrimp Tempura. I plan to go back and try the Lob Pops and Ahi Poke. Love the overall vibe of this place.

I went here because someone said it was like Terrapin, and the description of their tres leches sounded good. I had a reservation at 7, and when I got there, a group of people were sitting at my table still, just hanging out (campers!), so I had a little wait, until they decided to give me a booth next to them. Remember this for later. You get a bowl of bread (we got herbed focaccia) and 3 spreads. Their butter was really good. I ordered the: Spinach and Tomato stack I get that they like to locally source and such as much as possible, but really, give me a ripe tomato. My tomato from harris teeter tasted better, and that's not saying much. The goat cheese portion is fried, and my boyfriend enjoyed it, and said it was the best part of Zoe's. Seared Rockfish The fish was cooked perfect, and the lemon caper beurre blanc was good for the first few bites. Afterwards, it was getting too heavy. Same goes for the potatoes. The green beans did not have their stems removed, is that what they do?? Not cool. I struggled to finish this, and even with giving my date a good portion of the fish, I couldn't. I was full, and also tired of the dish. Not a good thing. Cafe Caramel Tres Leches It wasn't what I expected. I'm a fan of tres leches, but I can't really say I'm a fan of theirs. It wasn't bad, but it was disappointing. The cake was brown [from the coffee], and I didn't get the milk flavor, instead it tasted like salty butter. I didn't really taste the coffee, mostly just cinnamon, it was a bit overwhelming. It also had freeze dried strawberries scattered on the plate. I wish they would have been fresh, the dessert was so rich, fresh strawberries would have help cut it. My date had: Chinatown shrimp tempura When it came out, I thought, "oh man, that's a pretty big portion". Too bad that was about the best thing about it. It didn't taste like tempura, more like popcorn shrimp. I know my tempura, and any mediocre Japanese restaurant around here could make better tempura. It came with some shredded Napa cabbage, which coincidentally took up a good portion of the take out box the shrimp was presented in, so the portion wasn't as big as it seemed. Also, it didn't even look like shrimp tempura, and did not have the characteristic crispy batter that tempura has. At least Terrapin's did, and their accompanying sauces were good. Flat Iron steak I wasn't expecting too much, since it was just flat iron, but at least they cooked it perfectly. Bland in flavor, and chewy, but that's what I expected. The mashed potatoes were good though, really fluffy and light tasting, and the asparagus was tasty too. It was split in half and charred, but a little heavy on the salt. Chocolate souffle When I first ordered my tres leches, our waiter suggested this instead, since it was voted best dessert of hampton roads. It was pretty good, but I don't know about best dessert. It just tasted like a brownie. But the "gran'ma" whipped cream was great. Cute too, served in a baby spoon, and shortened grand marnier to grand ma. We also got a plate of super super small, one half bite of mini desserts. About a centimeter or less in diameter. Meringue, maple marshmallow, gingersnap, and mango candy. Only the maple marshmallow was yum, nice maple flavor. My waiter was Spencer, who sounded like Gerald Butler. He reffered to me and my date as "kids". Look buddy, I'm probably the same age as you, but being asian, I'm going to look like this until I'm 40. Damn. In his defense, everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be around 45-80. Also, dislike dislike dislike, he RUSHED US. What the heck! He said, "Another group has this table reserved at 8, so you have around 10 or 15 min left". Ummm we were still eating our entrees, but thanks. How rude, I mean seriously. No one rushed the people sitting in OUR reserved table (who, btw, finally left about half an hour later). Also the group next to me, had this man with a nasty phelmy cough, gross gross gross. He coughed around every 30 seconds to a minute. Ambiance killer, but otherwise the inside is nice. In the booths they give you a pillow, in case you go into a food coma. And mandatory valet. I can park my own damn car, especially since the parking lot is right next to the restaurant. I wish I just would have saved my money and went to Mizuno's, or a couple fire and vine lunches.

The food was delicious! Everything from the appetizers to the dessert were awesome. The blue crab mac&cheese is really good and the peach crisp is so fresh and just all together yummy. Wes was our server and was very attentive and friendly. I will definitely come back the next time I visit Virginia Beach.

My Girlfriends and I visited Zoe's last Saturday. We had a reservation for 5:30pm but I called to change the time. There was no problem and we were easily moved to 7pm. I also received a call back from Zoe's to confim and I was also offered the chef's table which was very nice. I took them up on the chef's table at 7pm. We all arrived on time and were seated right away. The hotess was very nice and we were offered water once we got comfortable. Our meal began with a complimentary appetizer from the chef of crab and chocolate on a homemade potato chip. It was a very nice way to start dinner. We also started with two cheese platters wich were amazing to look at and eat. Two of us ordered the 4 coures tasting menu and one ordered 3 course tasting menu and our other friend is a vegetarian so she ordered the tomato and spinach dish with a large side of asparagus. We were able to sample the lobster pops(fried food is always yummy), the clams(which had a bit of a sweet sauce to it), flounder(amazing), tomato and spinach(my fav of the night), steak(super yummy), pork cheek(which I thought was steak so I passed it to my friend that ordered the steak, come to find out it was the pork, really funny moment at dinner), salmon( so disappointed that it was cooked well, well done and the edamame puree was super salty), fried shrimp (fried food is always good), asparagus (so yummy and cooked perfectly), steak in a glass (that had very little flavor) and a sampling of dessert compliments of the chef (they were not tasty at all, rather sweet or very dry little cookie). My friend got two margaritas and she said they were strong and delicious). The service was fabulous and we only had very nice things to say about all the employees that serviced our table. So overall the experience was relaxing and fun. There were some misses on some of the food we were served. So I can't give Zoe's the rating that I wanted to. I would go back for the cheese, tomato and spinach, and the flounder for sure. Be for warned that when they ask you if you want water you are going to pay $6.00 a bottle. We were all surprised by the charge of 4 bottles of water on our tab. My friends and I had a good time thank you Zoe's.

Our drinks: Gusiness. Hey, it's St Patricks Day! Appetizer: Lobster Pops. Not very good. I didn't think you could wrap something in bacon and screw it up... Our main courses: *I had the Rib Eye medium rare. This was a very good steak. I'm happy I ordered it. *My wife had the swordfish. She called it average. Sides: * mashed potato's with my steak were average. There will still chunks of UN-mashed potato's in them. *duck fat French fries with pecorino cheese and truffle oil. I would rate these as terrible. My wife said they were edible (I disagree). We both agree that they were mushy/soggy and very salty. An overpowering saltiness on soggy fries is not a good combo. *the swordfish came with flavorless potato noodles. They brought us a sample dessert to finish of some little chewy fruit sweets rolled in sugar. These were nice. Conclusion: I wouldn't go back.

Dined here on a slow Monday Night. Blue Crab Mac was great, Steaks and Salmon all well prepared. Service was kind of inattentive. Were well into our entree before the server returned to ask for a refill on our wine selection. He could of sold 6 glasses instead of 4 if he'd been a little more on the ball. I understand that the slowest nights don't always get the staff ramped up but there were only 13 of us in the restaurant. I'm sure a Friday night in High Season they'll be more amped up and attentive.

Some friends took me to Zoes for the first time to celebrate my birthday. It was such a wonderful experience. The menu is really interesting and I really value their efforts to provide local products. Their wine list is good and with many reasonably priced options. Our server was great--she knew when to check-in and knew when to let us drink wine and laugh. The food was very good and I look forward to going back during a different season to see what's new on the menu. I am also looking forward to going back to sit at their beautiful bar, have a glass of red wine, and some more of their chocolate mousse dessert--delicious!

Just as my husband and I were beginning to resign ourselves to mediocre food off of the VA beach boardwalk, we visited Zoës on the advice of my fellow yelpers. Boy, were we glad we visited! We both ordered the three-course tasting menu, which allows you to pick any combination of appetizers, salads (which really could be another appetizer), entrées, and dessert. With careful planning, we had three appetizers, two entrées, and one dessert to share between the two of us. The food was memorable - particularly the perfectly-rare tuna, the delightfully-creative tomato caprese with homemade mozzarella, a tomato sorbet, and beef fillet carpaccio, and the sinfully molten chocolate soufflé. All for $36 each! We love this place so much that we will be making the three-hour trek to Zoës for my sister's belated birthday present. I'm pretty sure this place is going to make it even bigger soon, and the prices may not remain this way forever! Jerry, the chef, warned us that it gets pretty packed on the weekends, so if you want to be seated at a reasonable time, you may need to make reservations as early as the Wednesday of that week.

Went there based solely on Yelp reviews. We had a great meal. We got seated promptly. Opted to get a series of appetizers instead of an entree, and that turned out to be the right call. Clams d'asti were phenomenal, lots of clams, scallops and sausage in an amazing moscato-based broth. I ordered more crostini so I could lap it all up. Wow! Likewise, the ahi tuna with homemade kimchee and marinated cucumber was superb. The ahi was seared perfectly and the accompaniments were perfect. The spinach salad with goat cheese had way too much dressing, it drowned the greens. The blue crab Mac n cheese was delicious and really filling. Service was very friendly. Wine list is fabulous and yes, the markup is ridiculous. That aside, I would definitely go back.

I have a home in Va. Beach but travel with my work, so I don't get home much. That said, every trip home must include a trip to Zoe's. The best steaks, with a selection of side sauces that are amazing. A visit here is special, the dress varies, but this IS fine dining. The service is superb. There are anchor items on the menu, but it always changes, with some of the daily specials leaving you wanting to go right back tomorrow. Everything is fresh and local. What can I say, we enjoy the people and the food here so much we asked them if we could have our wedding reception here and they made it a memorable night for all. In closing, the wine selection is great with a knowledgable staff, including their on staff sommelier, and for a light appetizer always get the Clams D'Asti.

I have eaten there twice recently. First time my wife loved her meal (shrimp and 2 sides). I got the New York Strip, which was done perfectly (med.) and was very good. There was about a third of it that was fat and you couldn't eat. Service was fine. We went again last night. Ordered exactly the same meals. Once again my wife loved hers. This time my steak was rare half of it was fat and had a vein running through it. Service was poor. Very disappointing!!

One of the best restaurants on the east coast. The atmosphere is romantic & sophisticated. Perfect for dates. Zoe's has great service. The staff is knowledgeable and courteous. Although I enjoyed the main dishes I ordered here, I would definitely recommend the truffle fries as a must have. Fantastic. Also, they have a great wine selection.

Very impressive meal and excellent service. Very expensive but worth it as it was easily one of my top 5 meals ever. Had all the favorites including LobPops. Hard to believe a side dish could outdo an excellent steak but the Blue Crab Mac and Cheese is sooo unbelievably good.

Went last night for resto week. First time & they didn't skimp on service or taste. The sommelier was friendly & helpful (gave us a magnum for the price of a regular bottle because they were out of the vintage we ordered). Service was attentive but not overbearing. The food was fantastic! So much better than Terrapin--which I find a little overly hyped. For this area, this is definitely as good as it gets fine dining wise. Will be back again for sure. We take our school age boys to "nice" restaurants all the time & we really appreciated the grown up style of their menus & their 3 course kids' offerings. Way to go Zoes!

Excellent small place for an amazing culinary experience. We had the 9oz filet which was cooked perfectly and the house spicy steak sauce is on point. The best part hands down is the blue crab mac and cheese. Can't say enough about it. Mouth watering!

What is there to say about Zoes? The food is amazing and you can even see it being prepared. The blue crab mac-n-cheese is to die for. I recommend getting the 3 course with wine tasting. The amount of knowledge and the best chosen wines are from the best sommelier, he can even show you how to saber. The soufflé for dessert is amazing and highly recommended.

Just label this "fan boy loses his lust". I was as big a fan of Zoe's as there could be - dependable, comfortable -- a fine dining experience. But after last night, let's say the blush is off the rose. First issue came when the wine list was delivered. We are big pinot drinkers -- know them, love them. I was SHOCKED when I saw the prices -- there were only two choices under $70. The mark-ups seemed outrageous. For instance, a Kim Crawford (admittedly, Otago, not Marlborough), which retails all day long at around $27, was $102 -- a 377% markup. I can live with 250 to 300, but that is outrageous. Funny, but the other wines didn't seem as bad -- so we settled on a nice Franciscan Cab for $58 (which is typically around $25 retail). Now, on to the menu. Color me crazy, but shouldn't a restaurant this nice have more than two salads on the menu? I've had the wedge here many times -- tonight I wanted something different (maybe my myopic focus on the excellent wedge kept me from noticing before). No good sounding alternative (arugula with some kind of warm dressing and lardons), so went without. DW got the wedge -- well maybe half moon, since there was no wedge to be seen. There was a half a small head of lettuce, and some artfully arranged tomatoes and cold bacon strips. Meh. Steaks were so - so. I asked for it, and got a sirloin (trying to eat sensibly, I wanted something lean). Tough as a boot, with the connective tissue making it impossible to chew. I know -- what did I expect. Next time, I'll get the fillet. DW, not as health conscious, got the 16 oz. bone in rib eye. Flavorful, but there should be a smaller choice in a well marbled cut. Just way too much to eat. Sides were good, as was the dessert. Service was a touch off -- too many times we were without water, for just one example. Not bad, just not as good as it has been in the past. So, will I never go back? Probably not. I'll be back. But not as often as in the past.

I don't understand the previous reviews..did we go to the same restaurant?? First thing to know: MANDATORY VALET! I pulled into the parking lot while a car was being valeted. I did not know it was mandatory so I parked my car in the parking spaces that were literally 15 feet from the entrance to the restaurant! It was not until I was walking over that the valet said it was mandatory valet. Paking is ON THE SAME PREMISE! Why valet? For serious now!! Make sure you study the menu before you go bc there are so many combinations due to the option of prix-fix. Yes, i agree it's a great concept. Novel concepts have to be executed correctly in order to be successful. Otherwise, it's just....a concept, or a concept that flopped in my opinion. Littleneck Clams--4 stars. This was the best thing I tried all night. A hint of sweetness would have sufficed. This was 2 steps above that level. Pork Sirloin--0 stars. That's ZERO stars. It was very dry, extremely tough, and worst of all, utterly tasteless. It came out as 4 small slices. Took one bite and I pushed it aside. I swear my 3-year old niece can make better pork sirloin in her dollhouse kitchen! Leg of Lamb--2 stars. It had a hint of lamb but the flavor just did not carry through. It was pre-sliced and placed on a bed of mustard sauce. If you have the audacity to call yourself fine dining, it is NOT ok to plate the entree on simply mustard. This was just plain unimaginative. If I wanted mustard, I can just buy Grey Poupon and save myself lots of money!! There were several bites that were unchewable that I had to spit into my napkin. The vegetables on the side tasted like they were initially boiled then placed on the grill. You can imagine how thrilled I was. Oh yeah, they were also bland Cowboy ribeye--It arrived as a massive piece of meat. My boyfriend looked at it quizzically for a long time, then finally decided to cut into it. As soon as he did, the waitress came over and said that the chef misread the order and made him the T-bone steak instead. Isn't that wonderful!! He decided to save time and kept the T-bone, which by the way, was very rare. He ordered it medium-rare. Once again, it had no flavor whatsoever. Did they run out of salt and pepper? My boyfriend struck up a conversation with a nearby table, as they ordered the mac and cheese and he really wanted to know how it was. They liked it but said their steak was also very undercooked with no flavor. Being regulars, they advised us that one should only order from the left side of the menu. These are dishes that are standard. The right side changes regularly. Put another way, they are experimental dishes and oh boy did I leave feeling like a guinea pig. On a positive note, they respect reservations and will not keep these patrons waiting. They also give you a choice between a black or white linen napkin. That was a nice choice as I'm sure we've all had white fuzz on our black pants before. The waitress was very patient with explaining the complicated menu to us, that's why I recommend studying it beforehand. However, we had to remind her 3 times about our drinks. Overall though, she did a good job. Zoes tried so hard, but it just failed miserably for me. It has a lot of potential to be fine dining, but taste always comes first. I cannot justify a $100 dinner for bland food. Please lose the pretentiousness of mandatory valet. I probably won't be back, but I would love to see it improve and succeed in reaching their goal of fine dining!

Not impressed. Although I've lived in many different areas, I'm a local at heart and this is definitely not the "locals hangout". My friend and I went on a Wednesday evening, which despite many claims from reviews, there is NOT valet parking on the weekdays so keep that in mind. There was ample parking in the parking lot and not an issue at all. We got there around 6 and were greeted with the "staredown" from all the waitstaff loitering around the bar. Hiiiiiiiii. Great way to start the evening, guys. The whole seating and napkin show was a bit pretentious and the place started feeling really stuffy about 5 minutes in. Our server was not as friendly or charming as you'd expect a server to be at such a fine dining establishment, rather she seemed fake and like she hated her job. I ordered the green tea martini, which was divine, and my friend ordered the Sangritini, which was sweet and fresh. Let it be known: happy hour specials, from 5-7, are only, I repeat, ONLY served whilst sitting at the bar. That means if you're there at 6 sitting at a table right next to the bar, it doesn't matter...you do not receive happy hour prices. All of their cocktails start at $12. Their wine/glass list was uninspiring and entirely overpriced. I decided to go with the chef's tasting special, which is comprised of ANY 3 items on the menu of your choosing. That's a nice touch. I also chose to do the additional paired wine with each course for an extra $20 since most of their wine/glass started at $10, I figured it was actually the better deal. My first course was the cheese selection, which had a goat, gouda, and bleu with accompaniments. Not bad. The accompanying wine was a nice sauvignon blanc. My next dish was their special of the day (which I now regret) but was a pulled duck in a fried cannelloni shell atop a balsamic reduction. Sounds good, right? That cannelloni single-handedly ruined the dish because it was way too tough and chewy to pair with such a tender duck. I still wish I would have gotten the ceviche like my instinct told me. The accompanying wine was a smooth pinot noir. My entrée was the scallops, which clocked in at $24. To be honest, not many of the entrees jumped out at me. The waitress was completely unhelpful, after many attempts to get her to narrow down what entrée I should choose, so I went with old faithful. When my plate came out, it wasn't actually a plate...it was a side dish. My entrée was three, count them, THREE small scallops around a bunch of peas and two fingerling potatoes. I was shocked. Ladies and gents, I have been to plenty of fine dining establishments in my life and I completely understand the concept of quality not quantity but I was ABHORRED to see that my main course was nothing more than 3 minuscule, puny scallops in a bed of peas! To be fair, the scallops were pretty good (not the best scallops I've had, but for only having THREE scallops, I would have hoped they would leave me breathless). The accompanying wine was a buttery, oaky chardonnay (which I usually despise) but it seemed to go well with the buttered scallops. Also, the sommelier finally decided to drag his ass out for the final wine pairing (which I hear he's supposed to do for EVERY wine pairing) and give his rehearsed schpeil. Which brings me to another point: their big push was that all their products are local and fresh and yada yada, HOWEVER, every wine I was served was from California. How TABOO. I would think a restaurant so big on Virginia produce and meats would try and intertwine the concept of Virginia wines (similar to what Vintage Kitchen does). Bottom line, I would only come here if I happened to live down at the oceanfront and I were in the mood for steak, otherwise, be prepared to leave hungry, unsatisfied, and broke. By no means would I ever travel downwind for this food and pay out the nose ever again for stuffy service and overpriced drinks. Pass.

Just had an amazing dinner at Zoes! The truffle fries are to die for, as well as the crab Mac and cheese. Must leave room for the chocolate soufflé. One of the best wine lists we've encountered. This is a MUST try restaurant when you visit VA Beach!!

Just had dinner at Zoe's with my wife and 20m old. Weren't dressed or planned to go there but no prob they made us feel welcome. Cheese platter was great for starters and pork porterhouse, crab mac/cheese were good. Wife's fillet mignon was very tender but just okay. On the pricey side but good food and service.

This restaurant can hold its own in any culinary scene...not just a culinary desert like Virginia Beach. This was pretty much my go-to place here. Great wines and a creative dinner menu that brings in a lot of different regions while staying mostly French. Loved the poutine.

This place was a major let down. We were looking for romantic, and despite me having made the reservation in advance and indicating that the dinner was a special occasion, we were seated in a side room with a large party. A huge table with lots of people and one couple looking to have a romantic dinner in the same room? Yelling over them to have a conversation was definitely not what I had envisioned. In this situation, delicious food and good service could have easily made up for that hiccup. However, the sommelier purposefully skipped over us (we heard the conversation between him and the server, and frankly, it felt like we were being ignored because we were some of the only late 20s/early 30s aged people there). Both of our filets were nothing to write home about--both were very chewy, and had no taste.

Sommelier Marc Sauter & Chef Jerry Weihbrecht make the dining experience almost magical. Chef Jerry's imaginative dishes and exquisite flavor offerings are top-notch, and I can't think of anyone who knows more about wine that Marc. They're the perfect team, and their restaurant is heads and shoulders above the crowd.

As someone who typically doesn't spring for anything more expensive or extravagant than a good meal at a chain restaurant like Outback or the occasional sushi bar, the prices here can be a bit off-putting; however, Zoe's exquisite dining experience made the higher price tag worth every penny. I wanted to take my wife somewhere special for our anniversary, and went out on a limb to try this restaurant because of the good vibes from fellow Yelpers. I was more than impressed. Even choosing from the cheaper side of the menu, we had an amazing experience. This is the only place I've ever encountered that actually cooked the steak to order properly. Most places I find, will send out a medium rare steak that still has a moo, and my wife's medium well will be tinged pink or even red. Here, two perfect and succulent steaks came out exactly as ordered. Wine pairings, though a bit pricey, made the normal 10 dollar selections seem like poorly filtered tap water, and dessert was absolutely euphoric. My suggestions include : local favorite Blue crab mac and cheese, any of their fantastic steaks, and the chocolate souffle "hot chocolate cup," all to die for, even on a budget. The staff proved to be experts on costumer service: friendly valet service, knowledgeable waitstaff, and an expert on wine and its history providing a titillating narrative of each wine on their extensive menu. Reservations were easy, recommended for any day, and compulsory for weekends, as their service seems to have a large draw. Final evaluation: 4.8 of 5 stars for those not among the super rich, only deducting points for their prices. Otherwise, a blow-away experience.

One of our favorite places to eat. Did a tasting menu. Great quality ingredients. Done to specification. Mark, the sommelier, is a wealth of knowledge. Great pairings. A bit verbose. Great steaks. foie gras - need I say more!? Chocolate suffle to die for.

ok so we went to Zoes again last night & had another amazing meal. we also found out that they have "wine night" on tuesdays- they have a discounted wine list available. however, here's the bad news... ZOES IS CLOSING! :( Sadly, the rumor was confirmed by 2 of the waitresses. But one waitress did say that they might be able to reopen after a month or so, but they're not certain.

In VA Beach for business on April 12. We came across Zoe's on our way back to out hotel, and stopped due to the promise of steak. Boy, were we not disappointed. This place is on the pricey side (and a little snobby for my perception of VA Beach) but it is definitely worth it if you're looking for quality food & service in a posh atmosphere. I had the 6 oz. Filet mignon (medium rare) with the chive potatoes. My vegetarian friend had the blue crab mac & cheese & grilled asparagus with hollandaise, both of which she shared with me. Everything was fantastic. Steak was tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly to my expectations. For dessert, I had their cheese tray featuring a parm, a delicious bleu, and 2 other delightfully gooey ones whose names escape me. It was all paired with almonds, blueberries, figgy spread, and a kind of peanut crackle cake bits type thing. All delicious. I say if you have a little bonus money and want to treat someone special, definitely hit this place up.

Zoes is the ultimate dining experience. Start with a martini at the bar, which is presented in a chilled glass and you are also given the entire shaker and it's remaining contents. My husband, who has cooked in restaurants for 15 years had 'the best, most tender bone-in RibEye that he'd ever had'. I had the wedge salad with blue cheese, bacon and tomatoes. We shared the blue crab mac n cheese. But, the best of all was the chocolate soufflé, which your server will recommend that you order 20 minutes in advance. Zoes won the Virginian-Pilot's best chocolate dessert in Hampton Roads. Hands down, they have the best service I've ever experienced. They used to have a seasonal menu that changed a few times of year, not sure if it still changes.

Wow, I'm a business traveler, self proclaimed foodie. Got to have some pleasure from being away from home all the time right? Anyway, I found this on Urban Spoon, sorry Yelp! But I sat at the bar about 3 weeks ago or so, and it was truly a memorable experience. Ashley was wonderful at the bar. And Marc was just so accommodating and profesomal like I was so important....and the food....well I have been dreaming about it ever since...I had the tasting menu..which is a true bargain..let me tel you. The Shrimp and grits melt in your mouth and I don't really even like grits, the venison was fantastic...my new fab place to go..I was sooo excited to bring my husband here for New Years while we were on a mini vaca...he got sick. I was so bummed. I kept my reservation, but called to let them know I would be coming & sitting @ the bar & having a glass of wine while I ordered take out for my husband and I ..they were still just as pleasant and professional...even tho they were so busy. I will be back.....my taste buds depend on it.

Great food, great service and a great experience. We had the 3 course Chef's Tasting Menu with the wine pairing. The food was very tasty and Mark was extremely knowledgable and gave us the opportunity to experience unique wines. Highly recommend this place when you are in Virginia Beach.

Such a great find. 5 stars on all accounts. The service was superb - our waiter Spencer was such a delight. The ambiance is great - cozy place but more in the intimate rather than crowded sense. The food was incredible - every dish. We both decided on the 3-course paired with wines. Mark, the in-house sommelier was fantastic and made our dining experience not only fun and delicious, but educational. Dinner started with tempura shrimp and the Blue Crab Mac & Cheese (a must order). Both of our fish dishes were unique and full of flavor. The banana split and chocolate souffle were the best endings to a meal ever. And the wine pairings with dessert were THE BEST. Ice wine is my new favorite dessert wine!!!! This restaurant is a well-oiled machine. GO NOW!

This is my first 5-star Yelp review, and it's well earned. My wife and I just celebrated our anniversary here after visiting twice before, and we agreed it was the best meal we've ever had in America. While the food was very good and the waitress was ok, it was the wine (we did the 3 course meal with wine pairings) that pushed it over the edge. The sommelier, Marc, is incredibly knowledgable, and he did a flawless job picking glasses. I was half-expecting that we would get glasses from the glasses menu, but that was not the case. Some of the wines were from bottles on the menu (one was an $80 bottle), while a couple were from the private wine store upstairs. All were absolutely delicious. I won't recount what we ate, but I would highly suggest the crab mac and cheese; it's even better than Trilogy's.

Now that I've done more reviews, I've decided to make this five stars because of the service, romantic/intimate ambience and tasting menu with wine pairings--not to mention my wife's insistence!

I met my friend here on a Wednesday night. There were two other groups eating and a few at the bar. Apparently they have some good deals during happy hour but you have to sit at the bar so I missed out. It's a very class place...definitely fine dining. The booths and walls are all velvet. I don't know if that is good or bad:) I ordered a sangritini which had Fruit, Grey Goose Orange and Merlot. I really enjoyed it and it wasn't too sweet. The drink menu was a lot smaller than the items I saw online so I'm assuming that the list changes often or they need to update the website. I usually drink wine, but I thought I was going to get the happy hour deal and the price for a glass of wine was a bit overboard. To start I had the "Edamame Hummus: Soybeans blended with Ginger, Garlic, Sesame & Soy and Double Dippin' Wonton Chips." It was exactly what you would expect from hummus...I should have ordered something a bit more exciting, but I was still pleased. The menu gives you various options such as Zoe's favorites, smaller plates, chef's tasting menu, etc. Unless you want a steak or want to spend a lot of money, your best bet is to order from the favorites or smaller plates section. The smaller plate portions are the same size as the main entrees. I ordered the "Ahi Poke: Pineapple, Red Onion, Cucumber, Spicy Soy." The tuna was delicious. It was a bit salty, but there was a very spicy kick at the end of each bite, which I enjoyed. The accompanying cucumber salad was also a great addition. I was pleased with the entire thing and happy I didn't choose the overpriced entrees. I give Zoe's three stars mainly for the prices. I know many of the items are local and fresh ingredients, but I still feel the prices are a bit unreasonable for the portions. I mean...it is VA Beach :)

This is my favorite restaurant in VB! The wine selection, steaks, wedge salad and cup of chocolate dessert keep me coming back again and again! The food truly is wonderful and they have great happy hour specials too!

This is how HORRIBLE my experience was that I'm actually taking the time to write this review. We could of received better service at Burger King! We had to wait a considerable amount of time for everything. It took 25 minutes just for the first round of drinks to arrive. We never received any bread and his attitude was like whatever. I had to pour the wine the entire meal. Oh and when asked about an item on the menu it was read from his cheat sheet. The food was average at best. The entire experince was just off. I could of done without the attitudes as well. I will NEVER venture to Zoes again. Lost customer for life!

UGH - I have to agree with the last reviewer...everyone else must have gone to another restaurant. We had the same fiasco with the valet...it's a super small parking lot. Really? You need one. We didn't see anything and the guy wasn't there when we pulled in so we just parked ourselves. Fortunately we weren't yelled at about it. The service. The lack of service. We had an appetizer and our main entree yet were there for 2 hours, not by choice. The waitress was patronizing in explaining what "fennel pollen" was and then took forever to just bring us waters. The only bright spot to the meal was the excellent wine pairing with the appetizer, which was predetermined by their sommelier. Our entrees were just ok. Unremarkable is really the only word that comes to mind. We had asked our waitress about a couple of wines to pair with our entrees yet the one when recommended went horribly with them. Normally I'd think, our bad...except that this restaurant puts half of its pride in their wine stock and knowledge. I'd really just go somewhere else...this restaurant definitely does not have the bang for the (somewhat hefty) buck.

We went for restaurant week and were soo happy! We tend to like to Eagan nicer restaurants, fun restaurants, etc on the weekends, so this restaurant would be somewhere we would go when it's not restaurant week. That being said, we were so happy with this, restaurant week or not. The food was delicious, service was quick and friendly, and the wine sommelier was wonderful. He gave us great options at lots of price points. I would suggest this for a fun night out with girlfriends, a date night, or for friends heading in from out of town. FABULOUS

SOOOOOO Much more then a steak house! I don't know what the heck you are used to, but Zoes is way above a lot of the wanna be "trendy" or neuvo places that VB is getting full of. Not a place to go every night, but great for those special occasions, or if you wanna get lucky. Beats COBALT hands down! Terrapin might become a close second, but time will tell. Oh, the service...impeccable! They even reset our seat and change out silver if you run to the bathroom real quick, how attentive is that! Cup of chocolate for dessert, FTW!

By far by favorite restaurant in Hampton Roads. The menu is always fresh and interesting, with seasonal specials. I love that you can order a traditional three course meal or do up to seven courses tapas style. I have never had a bad meal, the crab mac and cheese and hot chocolate are a must.

Had a very nice meal here with super attentive service. Spendy, of course, but the half price wine specials made a real dent. Try the Chirasha if you are a sushi lover. The chocolate souffle is a great hommage to Roy's of Hawaii's lava cake.

It was a so so experience. I wasn't bowled over by the food. Although some were creative, there were a lot of misses also. I had the schirrachi sashimi plate and the presentation was very unappetizing, the fish was lukewarm and so did not have the fresh texture nor taste of sashimi. The fish itself was not horrible quality but because they were piled on some very bad rice and mixed it together almost like dog food, it was unappetizing. The rice was hard and not of sushi rice quality nor regular rice, so I am unsure what was the goal. the emulsion foam was okay, brownish, did not really do much. I think the chef is trying hard and almost there but mixing all the fish together is not good. At least the plating has to separate the fish in rows or something. I think if I didn't hae this mess of a dish, the restaurant would have a much better review. Nobu this is not. I also had the kobe meatball wrapped around foie gras called Decadence. It was good, but a little overcooked so the meat is not succulent and the foie gras is dry. Definitely though better than the fish dish. For dinner, I tried the sirloin with foie gras butter sauce. The sauce misses its mark, it was not good and we had to scrape it off ($6 for the sauce down the drain) the meat was well cooked though. My daughter had steak with maytag blue cheese, that was better but too much blue cheese. i think half the portion would have been sufficient and just cut the price of the toppings in half. As it was, it was not complementing the meat but overpowered and lost the flavor and freshness of the meat. the blue cheese was also very salty so overall, it was okay but we pretty much left a lot of the blue cheese. I can see with gorgonzola, you can put a little more, but with maytag, it was overwhelming. We had dessert tasting which consist of a chocolate souffle in an espresso cup, a spoon of creme brulee, and pineapple sorbet. The creme brulee, slightly undercooked but passable, the souffle is a flop, as it it not light texture of usual souffle and more like a lava cake. Probably cause it was too small and may be the regular size souffle is better, not sure. The sorbet is a little too sweet. The service is excellent. The food has some good idea, just need to execute a little more restraint and less will enhance his recipe greatly. We also ordered a side order of mac and cheese with crab and that was pretty good. Overall, it was okay but for the price point, I think it needs to step up a little more in some of the more refined handling of better restaurant. Focus on better plating, and nuances of ingredients. I don't think I would go back unless the menu is somewhat fixed especially in the steak topping dept. The pros is half priced wine on tues although at a huge mark up, such as the entrada malbec which is 10 dollars retail is at 31. So unless half price, this is way more than the usual 200% markup at restaurant. Their wine list is very well thought out though.

If you find yourself in VA Beach looking for some tasty cuisine not of the fast food genre, check out Zoes, located just a couple short blocks from the beach. It's dark inside with velvety booths and pillows in case you get sleepy. They have an amazing hummus plate and some really creative (and delicious) entrees to choose from. But make sure you save room for dessert. The waitstaff takes dessert orders early because some take about 20 minutes to prepare. LIke the chocolate cake thing I got. Yum! Oh! Be warned, the parking lot is really tiny and it's valet. So be ready to give up your car keys to cute little surfer guys.

Our dinner at Zoes last night was outstanding! First, I love the atmosphere- it's very nice but still has a casual feel that makes it comfortable, especially because there's enough space that you don't feel packed in. Second, the service was noticeably good- attentive and knowledgable but not overbearing. Third, and most important, the food was great. It was obvious from the salad on that everything was fresh and skillfully prepared. My pork chop was similar to what I've ordered at other local restaurants, but this was the best I've had. My husband got a nice cut of steak that was well cooked. And the blue crab mac & cheese I had heard about was great on the side. It was also nice that the prices didn't seem way overinflated like some places. I would definitely eat here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice dinner out.

I wholeheartedly agree with the other reviewers this is a great restaurant. Food was excellent. I had the center cut fillet which was delicious. Perfectly done. The blue crab mac and cheese was to die for and the chocolate souffle was wonderful. It was basically a cup o'chocolate. The service was great also. Our waitress had helpful suggestions and was very attentive. Overall one of the best meals I've had in Virginia Beach.

This is one of our favorites in Virginia Beach by far. Try the wine tasting dinner as Mark is extremely knowledgable and it makes for an incredible addition to the entire dining experience. And don't scrimp on the mac and cheese - go for the big order!

Zoe's might be the best food I have had in the entire Hampton Roads area, and I eat out 2-5 times per week. The service was top notch and the atmosphere was cool. I noticed an excellent soundtrack playing over the speakers. In all other cases, restaurants in this area choose the unimaginative "smooth jazz" genre, or the typical Frank Sinatra songs you were sick of 20yrs ago. Zoe's nearly won me over with the music alone, but the meal I was was so good. Since the menu is changed each season, I will be going at least 4 times a year. I really can't say enough about this place. You must try it.

I have always loved Zoe's, but now that Marc Sauter's there, there's even MORE to love! The atmosphere is a warm as ever. The food is inventive and delicious, but now the WINE is amazing! We were just there and all of us chose the 4 course tastings menu, paired with wines via Marc. The duck gnocchi was to-die-for! I'm craving it right now. The steaks are 28 day wet aged angus beef...YUM! The blue crab mac-n-cheese...oh my! You really have GOT to go!
